GRAVIITY-TTIS TIITANS QUIZ REPORT

On 17 July 2010, in the auditorium of St. Xavier's' College, Kolkata, the "GRAViitY-TTIS presents TiitANS, the Ultimate Science Quiz 2010" took place. 35-40 reputed schools of Kolkata took part in it. After a written preliminary round (which took place in two halves, juniors for Class VIII to X and seniors for Class XI and XII), the 15 schools with the highest Senior-Junior combined score contested in three semi-finals of five teams each. Two teams from each semi-final would contest in the final. The six finalist teams were Delhi Public School Ruby Park, Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan, M.P. Birla Foundation, DAV Public School, Calcutta Girls' School and South Point High School. After 7 gruelling audio-visual, buzzer and normal rounds, DPS Ruby Park emerged the champions with an astounding score of 105, the first runners-up were Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan with 60, and the second runners-up were M.P. Birla Foundation with 40. The DPS Ruby Park team was led by Arunavha Chanda of Class IX, Harsh Chhajer of Class X, Atma Anand of Class XI and Abhishek Rungta of Class XI. DPS Ruby Park had also been the champions in the inaugural TiitANS quiz in 2009.

Inter School and Inter DPS Competition report Session 2008-2009
Students of Delhi Public school Senior section were invited to various inter school curricular as well as co curricular competitions and activities and they not only participated with a keen spirit of enthusiasm but also brought laurels to their school with their effort and team spirit .The objective was to motivate and encourage the students to showcase their talents in various fields
 
  • South Point High School organized ‘PERCEPTUM’ - an Inter School Open Essay Competition on 3 May’08. Ankita Sharma of Class X B was placed in the second position in the Hindi Essay (Category I) event. She received her award at the Science City Auditorium.
  • Students of Delhi Public school participated in the 12th NATURE SPECTRUM 2008 on 5 June’08 to celebrate World Environment Day jointly with Parivar and Hope Kolkata Children Programme in association with Kolkata Police,Kolkata Municipal Corporation and Environment Dept West Bengal.Studentsof the school took part in a walk and also participated in a Drawing Competition. Samrin Jain of Class II stood first in the Junior category, Risheen Mukherjee came first and Shilpika Das came second in the senior category of the Drawing Competition.
  • ‘CHESSMATE’ an Inter School Chess Championship 2008 was once again organized by South Point High School in collaboration with Alekhine Chess Club on 21 June’08 in its school premise. Seven students (4 boys and 3 girls) from our school participated. Aditya Chakraborty secured the first position in the boy’s individual category. The overall boys team was placed in the Fourth Position.
  • 5A side football tournament was held on 5 July at St.Mary’s orphanage school DumDum .Students of our school participated enthusiastically.
  • Patterson Memorial Table tennis championship saw Debanshu Sen reaching the quarter final stage on the 18 July’08.
  • The Heritage School organized the 1st Inter School Invitational Football and Tennis Tournament on 7 August’08. The School football team reached the Semi –finals.
  • Inter school swimming carnival was held on 7 August’08. Priyadarshini Bose stood 1st in the backstroke event and 3rd in the 50m Breast stroke.

    • Under 16 – Sukrit Guha ( runner up in the singles match)
    • Under 14 – Sukrit Guha ( winner in the singles match)

  • TTIS (The Telegraph in School) in association with CESC held a workshop in the month of September on Energy Conservation for students of class IX.

    • ‘Sahadaya’ Sports meet Kolkata 2008-2009

    “Sahadaya”,an Inter School Sports Meet was organized from 27 Nov – 29 Nov 2008 in Kolkata.Students from C.B.S.C schools in and around Kolkata participated in the three days long sports extravaganza. Students from DPS Ruby Park also took part with much enthusiasm and brought laurels to their school with their sterling performance. The details are as follows:

    In Group A Boys events Aakash Mukherjee from Class VIII E secured the 1st position in the 200 mts race,whereas Sattik Basu from the same class took the 3rd position in Shot-put.
    In Group B Boys Arnab Pushilal of Class VII got the 2nd position in the 200mt race. Arnab Pusilal along with Shaon Barai,Mahagya Basu and Rohit Roy acquired the 1st position in the 4*100 mts relay.

    In Group A Girls events Urbashi Roy Chowdhury from VIII F put up a sensational display and secured the 2nd position in the Long Jump and 3rd position in the 100mts athletic race. Sohini Ali also from VIII F was 3rd in the 200mts.Urbashi and Sohini along with Anusua Chowdhury (VIII C) and Sayantani Das (VIII F) acquired the 2nd position in the 4* 100mts relay.

    In Group B Girls both the 2nd and 3rd position in the 100mts race were taken by girls of our school.Medha Chowdhury from Class VII E came 3rd and Anushka Singh from VII A stood 2nd. Medha , Anushka along with Anumika Mondal of class VII D and Diksha Verma of VII H secured the 3rd position in the 4*100mts relay.

    • Inter School Chess Tournament in Saltlake was organized in the month of December. Aditya Chakraborty, Bidita Shenoy and Nishi Iyer won the Champions trophy in the Junior Team Event
    • TTIS (The Telegraph in school) Great Challenge was organised on 27 Nov 2008.Students participated in various events like Creative writing,Maskmaking,Poster making,T.Shirt making,Eastern solo,cartoon drawing and Collage making. Monica Bansel secured the 2nd position in the Mask making competition.The western music band ‘Paper fly’ comprising of Anand Raj Singh, Udit Chowdhury, Arumoy Shome, Shreyash Agarwal, Tapobrata dutta and Aman Sahlejee made the school proud by securing the 2nd position.

  • Chess Championship for girls in DPS Agra was held on 24-26 April’ 08. The school stood 2nd in the overall group competition and Nishi Aiyar obtained the 3rd position in the individual category.
  • Chess Championship for boys in DPS Harni,Vadodara was organized on 6-8 May’08. Aditya Chakraborty came 3rd in the individual category and the school stood 4th in the group competition.
  • Table Tennis Tournament for boys in DPS Sushant Lok was held from 9-11 May’08.The school team reached the quarter finals.
  • Creative Dance Competition in DPS Bokara organized on 5 July’08 gave the students the opportunity to showcase their talent in creative dancing.
  • Swimming Championship for boys in DPS Bhilai from 9-12 July ’08 saw our students participate with great enthusiasm and confidence.
  • Model U.N Training Session in DPS R.K.Puram was on 23-24 August’08 and the school was represented by Shilpika Das and Debottam Chattopadhyay.
  • Inter DPS Quiz Competition in DPS Ranchi held on 6 September gave the quiz team much exposure and self confidence to sharpen their skills in general knowledge.
  • Inter DPS Cricket Tournament in Ranchi from 14-18 October’08 again helped the students to sharpen their sporting skills.
  • All India DPS Multi Sports meet for girls (U 14) at DPS Aligarh was organized on the 14- 18 October’08.The students secured the overall 3rd position among 67 schools The following are the individual results:
    1. 4 * 100 m relay – Gold ( Urvashi Roychoudhary, Medha Choudhury, Saintani Das and Sohini ali)
    2. Hurdles – Silver ( Sohini Ali)
    3. Long Jump – Bronze ( Urvashi Roychoudhury)
    4. 100 m – 5th (Urvashi Roychoudhury)
    5. High Jump – 4th (Sohini Ali)
    6. 800 mtr-5th (Anusua RoyChowdhury)
  • Inter DPS Debate Competition at DPS Ruby Park,Kolkata was held on 24 October’08. Shilpika Das, Debottam Chattopadhyay and Mitul Dey Chaydhury participated and the children made everyone proud by securing the 2nd position.
  • Inter DPS Maths and Science talent examination first round - was held in DPS Ruby Park on 18 December 08 and the answer scripts were sent to DPSS.The results are out and the Five toppers from our school will move on to the second leg of the examination.The Toppers are-

  • ULLAS- Inter school festival was organized by South Point School on the 17th and 19th of January 2009.Students from classes II-Vparticipated in various events like art and craft, quiz, elocution ,western and eastern group song,group dance, playacting etc and brought laurels to the school by winning the CHAMPIONSHIP trophy.The following are the final results:
